October 27th, 2022 by dgritzer
The General Motors (GM) recall 14350 made headlines in 2014, with millions of cars being recalled due to faulty ignition switches. The issue resulted in multiple fatalities and lawsuits. GM offered a $25 gift card as compensation, which left many customers questioning if it was enough to make up for the damages caused. In this article, we take a closer look at the GM recall and explore whether a gift card is sufficient compensation for the affected customers.
What is GM Recall ?
GM Recall 14350 is a recall campaign launched by General Motors to address a defect in the power steering system of certain vehicles.
What caused the defect in the power steering system?
The defect in the power steering system was caused by a faulty electronic control module (ECM) that could cause the system to malfunction and make it harder to steer the vehicle.

The recall affected about 1.
What compensation is General Motors offering to affected customers?
General Motors is offering affected customers a $25 gift card that they can use at several retail stores.
Is a gift card enough compensation for the inconvenience and safety risks caused by the defect?
Many customers and safety advocates argue that a $25 gift card is not enough compensation for the safety risks and inconvenience caused by the defect, especially since some customers had to pay for repairs out of their own pockets.
In conclusion, the GM recall 14350 has caused significant inconvenience and even danger to many drivers. While a gift card may seem like a small gesture, it can provide some financial relief and show that GM is taking responsibility for their mistakes. However, it is important to remember that compensation should also include fixing the root of the problem and ensuring the safety of all drivers. It is crucial for companies to prioritize the well-being of their customers and take proactive measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The cylinders can allow removal of the ignition key while the engine is running, leading to a possible rollaway, crash and occupant or pedestrian injuries. GM is aware of several hundred complaints of keys coming out of ignitions. Searches of GM and government databases found one rollaway in a parking lot that resulted in a crash and one injury claim. The same searches turned up no fatalities. GM has decided to replace the ignition lock cylinders and cut and, if necessary, reprogram new keys. This risk may be increased if the key ring is carrying added weight or if the vehicle goes off the road or experiences some other jarring event. Until recall repairs are made, it is very important that customers remove all items from their key rings, leaving only the vehicle key. If there is a key fob, it also should be removed from the key ring. About General Motors Co. This blew up not that long ago with the newer GM cars high media attention due to the deaths , but the recall eventually included Intrigue. You can always check on line to see if your vehicle is included with the VIN. Posting this topic to let everyone know, as well as to see if anybody has any feedback on the service performed. I would have bumped your thread rather than started this one. That topic unless I missed it still doesnt have any posts from someone who actually went in and had the service performed as far as I can tell. There was one guy that said he was calling the dealer but no follow up which brings us up to the current thread. I am sure you are all right. A search on line quotes a dealer as having the hole epoxied and drilled instead of an insert. I figured this is an Intrigue forum and as an official recall on the car we should have whatever info is available here. Joined Jan 4, Messages 50 Reaction score 0 Points 0. I took my Intrigue in for the recall probably a year ago. They basically modified the key head to fill in the open area where you would insert your key chain. Before it was a large open area. Now its a small open area. At least thats what the service adviser told me. FrazierRacing New member. Joined Mar 30, Messages 15 Reaction score 0 Points 0. So when I bought my trigue it was from the original owners son because sadly he past away, but anyway I dont have the original keys and I was wanting to get an oldsmobile key. Is there any way to do that. I know thats not what this thread is about, but I was thinking it would just be easier to ask here than to create a new thread. Basically Im looking for a blank oldsmobile key I can have cut for my car. I also need remotes for keyless entry since the ones I have had the part you attatch to the keychain snap. Click to expand I replaced my ignition switch way before this recall ever came to light as mine was causing the car to both not start and randomly stall. Upon inspection, there were what looked like burn marks inside the ignition switch. The first time I just cleaned it but after it happened again I replaced the switch. No issues after that. I saw that same issue you mention and took pictures Trigue GLS. Ill bet a lot of folks got rid of their GM car over that very annoying and dangerous failure! Interestingly it not what was recalled to my surprise.
